The club was officially founded on December 24, 1889, by a group of railway workers, taking its name from the British-owned Central Argentine Railway company. known as Canalla (Rabble), the city of Rosario is the birthplace of footballer Leo Messi. Kappa were outfitters of Rosario from 2006-2009 until kit makers Umbro later took over operations.
